When prosecutors are forced to step out from behind the counsel table and take the witness stand themselves, you know the stench of judicial misconduct is getting impossible to cover up. Karmelo Anthony’s battle for a new trial is putting the entire machine of Texas justice on blast.
The second day of hearings on Karmelo Anthony’s motion for a new trial took an unusual turn on August 21, when prosecutor Bill Wirskye stepped onto the witness stand to face intense questioning regarding the state’s handling of critical evidence and witness testimony. Defense attorneys pressed Wirskye on whether proper protocols were followed during the initial investigation, forcing the prosecutor to defend decisions that ultimately put a young Black man behind bars.
